Coaching Isn’t Magic, but It Can Work Better Than You Think

5 Tips for Working With a Business or Marketing Coach
Plus a Simple Way to Understand Coach vs Consultant

When I’m coaching someone, my favorite moment is when they have that spark of understanding. I love when people get it. Sometimes it only takes one small shift for everything to fall into place. That moment tells me we hit the exact point they needed.

If you’re exploring coaching or want to get more out of the support you already have, these five tips will help you get better results.

Tip 1: Know What You Want Help With
You don’t need a full plan. You just need a starting point. When you know where you feel stuck or what you want to understand better, your coach can guide you with more clarity.

Tip 2: Be Ready to Do the Work
Coaching is not about getting answers handed to you. It’s about building skills, habits, and confidence. Your coach guides you, but your progress comes from taking action in small steps.

Tip 3: Ask Questions
Coaching works best when you stay curious. Ask when something feels unclear. Ask when something feels exciting. Your coach wants your questions because they show where your next breakthrough might be.

Tip 4: Use the Time Between Sessions
Real growth continues after the session ends. Try the tools you’re given. Notice what feels easier and what still feels heavy. Write down your thoughts so you can build on them next time.

Tip 5: Be Honest With Your Coach
Honesty creates better results. Say what’s working and what isn’t. Your coach adjusts with you. There’s no judgment. Just support.

Coach vs Consultant: What’s the Difference?
I get this question a lot, so here’s the simplest way to explain it.

A consultant gives you the map. They tell you what direction to go and what steps to take. They may even do the work for you. For example, when I consult on a website, I show you what needs to change and why, and you go build it.

A coach takes the journey with you. You still do the work, but you’re not doing it alone. Your coach helps you stay focused, confident, and consistent as you move forward.

Both are valuable. You just choose the kind of support that fits your needs.

Working with a coach can help you see things in your business that were hiding in plain sight. Small shifts lead to big wins, and having someone walk with you makes the journey smoother.

If you want support, clarity, or guidance on your next steps, I’m always open to a conversation about what coaching might look like for you.
