Creating Social Media Content: Tips for Being Original
Dealing with the pressure to constantly deliver content
What is important regarding creating social media content? That your content is creative and original, right? If you feel some or most of the content you share is flat, I’m here to help you make a change.
How do you create content? Are you one of those who rely on spontaneous inspiration? Or do you take the conscientious approach, brainstorming and planning your content schedule weeks or months in advance?
Whether you’re spontaneous or highly disciplined is fine as long as you are creating effective content is. What is not OK is that numerous social media marketers are regularly producing unoriginal content. If you are failing to engage with your audience, like a lot of other, lack of originality may be why.
Creating original content might be intimidating but by establishing a protocol for better thought and planning & writing, it can be simplified.
I hope these tips for creating social media content will lead you on the right path.
A Story Is More Interesting
If you want to create original content around a subject that has been heavily saturated, do something unique and tell a story. Share your point of view and make it fresh, something that doesn’t exist already. For example, don’t just write a top 10 list of scariest movies of all time. Describe in detail two of your favorite movies from the list including where you saw them for the first time and why they scared the “you know what” out of you.
Visual content stands out
End users are more likely to remember visuals. If you want to increase the efficacy of your content, add some eye catching photos and/or videos.
- 37% of marketers said visual marketing was the most important form of content for their business, second only to blogging (38%).
- 74% of social media marketers use visual assets in their social media marketing, ahead of blogs (68%) and videos (60%).
- When people hear information, they’re likely to remember only 10% of that information three days later. However, if a relevant image is paired with that same information, people retained 65% of the information three days later.
Gather Ideas Continuously
The problem many creators have is that they see content creation as something that happens during a specific time. After hours, they stop paying attention.
Creating social media content that is new and fresh that your audience will eat up involves stepping out the box of time. Your creative content radar should be on around the clock. I’ve come up with many ideas watching Netflix with my daughter or while discussing current topics at a dinner party. Fresh content is not always easy to find so don’t limit your possibilities by turning off that radar.
Social media has become a space where businesses are expected to constantly create. News feeds repopulate with new posts continuously therefore it’s easy to feel like you’re failing if you don’t share articles and videos with your audience hourly. A lot of businesses don’t have the resources to keep up with quality content. Instead of putting all their creative energy into 10 quality posts, they opt to create 30 lesser quality post. This is a mistake because even though more will see their post if they create more, followers are more likely to interact with something unique, creative and fresh.
Today make the right choice and commit to creating engaging content, content that will catch the attention of your audience. After reading this article, I hope you feel more confident in your ability in creating original content.
